With the growth of a band program, the yearly budget will have to be adjusted accordingly. This is something that can vary from year to year based upon participation in things like out of state trips for contests or honor performances, the number of contests or festivals in which the program participates, the addition of staff members, etc.
Instrument Repair budgets rely on two main factors, aging instruments and the amount of equipment in inventory. The more equipment the band has in inventory, the more it will cost to maintain the equipment.
The Supply Budget is affected by the size of the band program. Many times the supply budget is calculated by a certain dollar amount per student. This is very reasonable
The Consultant Budget is affected by several factors. In regards to marching, there is a drill writer, a music writer, guard instructors, and sometimes a program design consultant who pulls everything together. Other factors include purchase of copyright licensing for music arrangements, and paying for masterclass consultants, and clinicians.
Band Fees and Dues include director memberships to professional organizations, contest and festival entry fees, solo and ensemble entry fees, and region band entry fees.
Student Travel will vary from year to year depending on the size of the organization, the number of trips taken, the number of students going to TMEA for the All-State experience, performances at the UIL State Marching Band Contest, performances for Honor Band, and invitations to perform at The Midwest Clinic, etc. Some districts do not contribute to trips like Midwest or Music for All; expenses for these trip must sometimes be done through booster clubs and fundraisers.
Director Travel will depend on whether or not the district pays for travel to professional conferences and how many directors there are. In addition, some directors must travel between schools in their district to teach and many districts will pay mileage for that.
